The Bird is the Word
Chosen from over 10,000 entries for Print Magazines 2007 Regional Design Annual, BAD Studio’s Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law DVD packaging designs for Adult Swim were picked to represent design excellence in Georgia.
“After a year of tight budgets and clients not willing to take as many risks in a tough economy, it was great to be represented in one of the premiere design competitions in the US,” says Scott Banks, creative director and founder of BAD Studio.
About the Project: Bird's of a Feather
The Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law DVDs let BAD Studio’s wit and design sensibilities shine, while merging perfectly with the show’s offbeat humor. Each set in the series is designed on the outside to look like a law book, complete with a faux-leather texture. But inside is where the fun begins. Suspicious photos, mysterious artifacts, scatological notes, and bizarre corporate memos are inside jokes for Birdman fans.
“We created much of the art from weird things we’ve collected over the ages. It’s part of our eclectic artifact library, and it’s fun whenever we get to use it. My favorite is the Real Crime Trading Cards,” says Banks.
As icing on the cake, the show’s writers create episode descriptions in the style of each package’s unique pop-culture twist: volume one is case law, volume two is a law school course catalog, volume three is a trashy law magazine.
